Environmental Communication

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION IN ENVIRONMENTAL DECISIONS

This course provides the background of community and civil society engagement in the environmental movement. It presents in depth some of the most important legal documents such as the Aarhus Convention, and present requirements of the state institutions to create the necessary conditions for access to information and participation in the decision-making processes. The community engagement requires a two-way communication process. Numerous cases show that development and environmental protection are not going in the same direction. Therefore, conflict resolution and management procedures need to be established.
